WE ARE BACK ON THE AIR!
..............................................................................................................
Since the shutdown of GB3WR and GB7PM in June 2024 we have formed a new committee with the sole purpose of getting both of the repeaters back on the air.
We can now comfirm that the Mendip Hills will once again host WR and PM!
UPDATE 12/02/2025
Here is the latest update following the site visit this morning to GB3WR & GB7PM.
This update contains both bad news and good news.
Firstly, the bad news.
It was immediately obvious, when we got to the repeater rack, that items had been removed since Matt was last there.
The following equipment has been removed by person(s) unknown:
The four (4) cavity filters (originally from Pen Hill and put in place by Chris G3VEH). I am not looking forward to telling Chris, and I am sure he will be as sickened as we are that these items are now missing. The now empty cavity container can be seen on the middle of the picture.
- Bandpass filter (seen on the top of the cabinet in the right of the picture).
- The spare Phillips FX5000 repeater (seen on the floor on the RHS of the rack in the right of the picture).
- The Duplexer for GB7PM (not visible in the picture).
Unfortunately, we now have to notify the site owners of this removal and the necessary authorities.
Next comes the very good news.
Thank you so much to everyone who has made a donation. We are pleased to advise the group has paid all outstanding invoices and is now debt free. The invoices were cleared as follows: 27.49% being paid by personal donations from committee members, and the remaining 72.51% from donations made via the GB3WR supporters. Although this leaves the bank balance very depleted, I am sure we will meet next year’s costs by means of our planned actives during the coming year. Our 2 committee fundraisers are now actively working on this going forward.
Rest assured, we already have the required means to ensure the switch on is not delayed.
We will be back on the site in the next days to get everything ready for switch on.
Regards MRG Committee
On behalf of the committee, Joe G0LNI
UPDATE 12/02/2025
We would like to update you all on progress being made as we move closer to switch on.
We have now requested site access and are expecting to be able to attend before the end of February. Any equipment that requires cleaning and servicing will be removed and then the system bench tested.
We would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who has made a donation so far, we have made good progress towards reaching the amount needed to clear our balance but we are not there yet.
We have already cleared some of the invoices this week.
Thank you also to all those who have contacted us to with supportive messages.
Our aim was not just to bring GB3WR and GB7PM back but to make them sustainable going forward. I believe we are well on our way to accomplishing both these objective.
Again thank you all for your support.
Listen to the GB2RS news this coming Sunday, We hope to get a mention

Thank you for taking the time to find us. The WR website is full of useful information about the group and our repeaters. WR is an analogue 2m repeater that is located on the Mendip hills in Somerset. At a height of 1000 feet above sea level, WR covers a large area of the south west and south Wales.
We have made some changes to the website inline with the changes to the services that we provide so whilst you are here have a good look around.
We are in the process of putting together our own coverage map made up of reports from our users. If you would like to be apart of the map please use the form at the bottom of the coverage page and Include a bit about your station. If you are mobile or a base station please give us your feedback as regards our signal. The map is located on the coverage page.
If you are interested in VHF propagation you will find a link to a very useful prediction map on the coverage page above our map.
Repeaters are not just there for the use of radio hams to pass the time of day, they do provide a service that sometimes can help the general public. In the late summer of 2017 WR was used to summon emergency medical help to a young lady called May.You can read her story of that day on our blog page, August 2017.
We were so touched by this that we have made May our official mascot!!
We will be attending some rallies this year and it would be great to see some of our users.Visit our "rallies" page to see where we will be.
As with all repeaters we totally rely on the generosity of the users to keep WR running,so click on the Paypal link below and make a donation. When you make a donation could you drop us an email saying that you have made a donation so we can add your name, callsign and email address to our supporters list. THANK YOU!!
To contact us you can email [email protected] or use the contact form on the contact page.
